3 Ways to Find Your Niche Right Now

May 9, 2016 by Kimberly 2 Comments

When you find your niche, you guarantee that you’re going to be able to share the right message with the right crowd. Or, in business terms, you’re going to be presenting the right products and services to the people who actually need them.

It’s the only way to stay in business or become a successful blogger.

You’ve got a life-changing message to share…

…so now you’ve got to find the right audience to share it with.

Let’s talk about how to FIND your niche, okay?

3 Ways to Find Your Niche Right Now -

Find Your Niche with these 3 Easy Methods

1. What is it that you LOVE to talk about or do?

If you asked me to give a lecture on evaluating the artistic differences between Monet, van Gogh, and Picasso, it’d be pretty short… unless you let me tie in the Doctor Who episode with van Gogh. Then I could talk your ear off about my favorite Doctor Who episodes for HOURS! (The best one to watch is Blink, by the way. Go on – go watch it.)

Why pick something that you love? Easy. If you don’t, you’re going to run out of material pretty dang quick. On the other hand, if teaching people how to budget or to crochet is your thing, you’ll probably be able to blog about it for YEARS.

So go ahead and ask yourself (and then write down your answers):

  1. What do YOU love to do?
  2. What are your hobbies and passions?
  3. What do you do in your spare time?

2. What is it that you’re AWESOME at doing?

Do you have some special skills that others find truly fascinating?

After working in emergency departments for 7 years, I’ve accumulated a good story or two. Okay, fine. I’ve got hundreds of stories. Not everyone is a nurse, but it sure seems like everyone enjoys a good medical story… because, seriously… ER ran for 15 seasons and then there’s House, and Nurse Jackie, and on, and on…

I’m pretty sure you’ve got something in there that other people are always asking you to tell them about – maybe it’s how to train a puppy to quit yapping, to communicate with your kids, or even how to get a great deal at a store. The point is – you’ve got some special skill or ability that can help others. Why not use that as your niche?

Here are few questions to help you find your talents or skills…

  1. What are your BEST skills and abilities?
  2. What’s the #1 thing people ask for your advice about?
  3. What have you spent the last 5+ years of your life doing for a living?

3. Or go for the glory…

Believe it or not, there is a third way to choose your niche. It’s not talked about a lot for one simple reason: nobody likes to admit that they pick a niche simply because of its potential.

Maybe it’s because it has a fantastic earning potential – or a potential to change lives – or it’s just something that you want to be a part of. In any of those cases, you’d be choosing a niche based off of its potential. And that’s just fine!

I mean, I’ve got a friend whose husband was a police officer. After he realized that a police officer’s salary wouldn’t support the lifestyle he wanted for his family, he went back to school and got an uber-specific engineering degree that’s so high in demand that it got him a job before he’d even graduated. He enjoys his new career and he loves that he can provide the lifestyle he wants his family to have.

Just like in a real-life job, it’s just fine to choose a niche that you absolutely love – no matter the potential or the earning capability. It’s also fine to choose a niche that you enjoy and has amazing potential. The amazing part is that we’re all positioned to make our own choices.

Ready to see if there’s some more potential out there for you? Then ask yourself…

  1. Can you combine your talents, skills, and passions into a super-specific niche with awesome earning potential?
  2. Are there any related niche markets with better potential (earning or otherwise) that also appeal to you?
  3. How important is the idea of potential to you?
