I have a pet peeve… I hate a plain author box without links to my social media profiles, but I also do not want to install another plugin on my website. So here is my dilemma… how can you accomplish this without any HTML knowledge? Let me tell you it is way simpler than most people realize to write your Author Box with Links. So let’s get started!
How to Write a Beautiful Author Box with Links in WordPress
Step 1:
Add a new blog post.
Step 2:
Write a fun bio with links where you would like them. You can also bold or italic text as desired. Here is my bio.
Step 3:
Switch post view from Visual to Text.
Step 4:
Highlight and copy the entire text box.
Step 5:
Go to Edit My Profile (upper right-hand screen)
Step 6:
Paste into Biographical Info section.
Tip: If you have never used your author box you may need to enable it. It is very easy to do in your profile, but it is almost at the bottom.
Step 7:
Click Update Profile (at very bottom of page).
Step 8:
Go to blog and make sure author box displays correctly (If not repeat). See my links?
Congrats!
You now have an author box with links to your favorite social media accounts! See, wasn’t that simple? Keep this technique in mind for anywhere you are needing HTML (like a widget). Once you get this down pat blogging becomes a lot simpler for the non-techie people.

Other Author Box Tips:
- Be fun and memorable
- Tell your story (but don’t make it to long or your reader will loose interest)
- Include links to Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest (or your other favorite social media sites)
- Be sure and include a link to your personal blog if it’s on another website 😉
Your author box is like your 30-second elevator pitch. Your author box is one more chance for you to connect with your readers. And most likely if your readers made it all the way to end of your post, they’ll hop on over and follow you on your social media accounts! Another great win for you 🙂
