Blog Stalking (Why You Should Leave Comments)

August 20, 2014 by Brittany 7 Comments

Howdy! Millie from 2 Crochet Hooks here. A fellow blogger asked me to make a post on blogging tips. We normally share crochet patterns and crafts so I couldn’t think of what to write on. What kind of tips could I share? And then it hit me. Something I am totally guilty of and am working on correcting. Something a lot of us do – bloggers and non-bloggers alike.

We all stalk blogs…..

Yes, I admit – I am a blog stalker. I will visit blogs and not leave a comment.

Why?

In the beginning, I was shy.

Then I read a few posts on blogging and the theme was “Leave constructive comments”.

What does that mean?

What is a constructive comment?

If I don’t leave a constructive comment, will I get in trouble?

I decided it would be best to be safe by not commenting and just look. Right? I can be safe and anonymous over here and you will never know I was even there.

Then one day, someone left a comment on our blog.

It was a very constructive comment.

To date it is still my most favorite comment. Ever.

This comment totally changed my world. Made my day. Made me smile. Made me want to write another post. Gave me such an emotional high, I was super productive for days. That comment changed my entire world view.

Wow! What a comment right?

What kind of constructive comment could do all that?

“This is cute. Thanks for sharing the pattern.”

Wowzers!! Amazing right?

I know you are thinking I am crazy. But think about it.

SOMEONE read my post.

Someone READ my post.

Someone read MY post.

And they LIKED it!

They said so.

And

I will love them forever.

Really.

So when you visit a blog and leave without a comment, that blogger doesn’t know. You are safe and anonymous.

But when you comment…..

When you say Hi!

When you let them know you were there, you read their post and you liked it…..

You totally make their day.

They will smile.

They will be excited.

They will dance around the living room singing “They liked my post!”

And then something else happens.

They check if YOU have a blog.

Then they come visit YOU.

They like YOUR post.

They leave YOU a comment.

and YOU are now happy.

You dance and sing.

You make another post.

So instead of being safe, go out today and spread some happiness. Let those bloggers whose posts you like know you are there. You don’t have to be constructive, you don’t have to be wordy, you don’t have to be clever.

Just say Hi.

Thanks for reading
Millie
