Since becoming a stay at home mom, I’ve tried putting more focus on my blog. It isn’t easy, especially since giving birth to my second child six months ago. Before I had kids I thought it would be a piece of cake. I’d picture myself sitting in front of my computer with a cup of tea, typing away during nap time.
I’m finding that to be able to blog consistently it takes a combination of time management, organization, and sometimes luck. I don’t always have the time I’d like to type my thoughts to share with the world. That’s where the following come in handy in helping me keep my blog current.
Blogging App
I rarely publish a post via an app. However, I do use it to begin my drafts or upload pictures I’ve taken with my phone. An app makes blogging on the go handy. I can start a post while I’m waiting in line at the grocery store or at the doctor’s office. Then, when I have the chance to sit at the computer I have most, if not all, of a post already written. I just edit the text, resize and rearrange the pictures and I’m ready to hit post!
Pen and Paper
I keep a small notepad and pen in my purse at all times so that if a topic for a post or an idea for my blog pop into my head while I’m out, I can jot it down before I forget about it.
Utilizing Nap Time
When I only had one child this was the ideal time to write posts. Now that I have two, I don’t always have the luxury of both children taking naps at the same time. Now I use this time to refine a draft to post and leave comments on other blogs.
Babysitter
I’m coming around to the idea that it’s okay to make time for me and it’s okay to ask for it. I’ve been known to drop the kids off with my in-laws and come home to crank out a few posts and schedule them using a calendar plug-in. I also take advantage of the moments my husband runs errands and takes the kids with him.
Scheduler
Using a scheduler (either your blog’s or something like Hootsuite or Buffer) is handy when I’ve managed to write more than one post. I can space them out during the week so I don’t have to worry about whether or not I’ll have time to write. Schedulers also give you the option to share your latest blog post with multiple social media networks, allowing you to reach a larger audience without doing much work.
What helps you find time to blog when you’re busy?
