Getting Published: Where and How?

December 4, 2015 by Tina 7 Comments

Have you tried getting published? Do you want to? Getting our content published, whether it be syndicated or original, is not always easy. It requires effort, patience, humility, and strength. It can be done though and these five bloggers, including myself, prove that. Here is what they (and me too) had to say when this question was posed in the IBA Member Only Facebook group.

Have you tried to get your blog content published? Do you want to? Getting published can be done. These five bloggers, including myself, prove that.

Getting Published, Where and How?

“One time I was syndicated on BlogHer. It was a post about not passing along your math insecurities to your children. I signed up on BlogHer and shared my post about staying positive (or at least neutral) about math in front of your children. Someone noticed and it got syndicated. It struck a cord with many teachers and parents apparently.” – Audrey from That Recipe

“In November of 2014, I made a blogging goal to get published on The Huffington Post. I submitted content weekly and was constantly rejected. The rejection helped me see just how much I wanted to be published. I refused to give up! In February of 2015 my determination paid off when they accepted an article. The article that got me through The Huffington Post doors was… 10 Reasons Why Blogging is Ruining My Life. Oh, the irony!

It was totally unpaid but it drove loads of traffic to my site and I’ve gained many readers as a result of it. Plus once you get published, you get permanent back door access – so you can cross-publish as much as you want with them.

My biggest piece of advice – be persistent. Don’t give up. Your big breakthrough could be right around the corner! I’ve been published in a number of places including HuffPo, Scary Mommy, xoJane, In the Powder Room, Blunt Moms, BlogHer, and SITS Girls. ”  – Jennifer from The Deliberate Mom

“I prefer looking for opportunities in my niche. That’s how I became a contributor for a supplements brand. It’s not a bad idea to contact brands and niche blogs asking for opportunities. Be persistent and don’t forget to invest in your content. Chances are they are going to visit your blog to make sure it’s in line with their audience.” – Debbie from Debbie in Shape

“I have been published in a local magazine via freelance writing. It’s been fun and it’s a great way to connect with my community too. I was contacted by the magazine owner’s wife, who I had met at a baby shower a few months before. She knew I wrote a blog and asked if I would be interested. It doesn’t pay much, but it’s fun to actually be in print!” – Katelyn from What’s Up Fagans

“Now it’s my turn 🙂 I love the idea of getting published on other sites. My hope is that in doing so, my little blog will gain more recognition and grow up to be a big blog 😉 You can find me on a variety of sites around the net but my favorites thus far are BlogHer, (because it taught me a lesson), Blunt Moms, Mom Babble, and The Mighty.

BlogHer was the only one that I  have been paid for and honestly… I am not proud of that post. I took my stand on a very controversial topic and came face to face with opposition. The opposition does not bother me much, (we are different and we will have differences), but rather the feelings that my post exposed. I am pretty sure I hurt a lot of people with my strong opinions and that did not make me feel good as a writer. I learned a lot from that piece. If you are going to read it fine, but please read my response as well. You might as well learn from my mistake, so that at least something good can come of it.” – Tina from Los Gringos Locos

Now tell me, have you been published?
