Back in 2006, I started my blog as part of my Master’s Thesis Project. My advisor encouraged me to develop something that would live on infinitely. So, I created Technotini.com, a blog that analyzed trends in digital media.
I fancied myself the Carrie Bradshaw of tech editorials.
However, as life evolved, my blog started to evolve as well. I started writing more lifestyle related articles (like recipes, crafts, travel) and I noticed that no one was reading my pontifications on people’s relationships with their phones or apps or how social media was affecting people’s attitudes and feelings.
I was a little crushed. I thought I was going to be the IT Girl of digital media philosophy!
If I wasn’t a Digital Media Philosopher, then who was I?
And what was I actually writing about?
I started diving deeper into my analytics and realized that people were loving my craft posts and my creative recipes.
I was actually a lifestyle blogger. Not a modern day Tech philosopher.
I needed to reframe how I looked at my blog and build upon that new vision!
What Is Reframing?
Have you ever noticed how putting a favorite photo, picture, or painting in a new frame can bring out certain colors in the piece? The right frame can give it a whole new look, and even change the overall energy or style of the room where it’s displayed.
The same is true for your attitude in life and blogging!
You can’t always control what circumstances happen to you or what actions other people take that impact you. But you can control your attitude and adjust it so that you can turn every situation into a beautiful advantage.
Why Does Reframing Matter?
Reframing allows you to take back your power. When you’re not focused on actively reframing situations through a positive attitude, you can become a victim in your own life story. But with reframing, you shift from the victim to the one in the driver’s seat.

It’s true you don’t always get a choice in what happens to you, but you do get to choose which lens you view your life through. If you want to, you can choose to view it from a positive standpoint and look for the good.
This can open up new opportunities and show you possibilities that you may have only dreamed of before.
Back to my earlier example about my digital media blog…after I reevaluated my focus and reframed the way I approached it, I was then able to focus on things my audience really wanted.
I rebranded and renamed it Our Sutton Place, focusing on Family Fun.
I got my kids involved and started highlighting easy, no-mess ways to do crafts.
I started getting more sponsorships for my easy and healthy recipes.
And I my Facebook grew by leaps and bounds.
Once I reframed my attitude towards my blog, it became even easier to keep up with and much more popular with my audience.
How to reclaim your blog through reframing
The same holds true in blogging. There are so many aspects of blogging that are out of our control.
- Algorithm changes in Facebook or Instagram
- Rule changes in Pinterest
- Strategy changes in just about everything
And once you think you’ve got it all down and under control, the apps/tools change again and you’ve got to switch things up again or else your numbers will plummet and you’ll lose followers, sponsorships, and money!
It can be extremely frustrating and defeating.
Some days it just feels like it’s easier to throw in the towel.
How can one possibly keep up with it all?
DON’T PANIC.
Just REFRAME!
How to Reframe Your Blogging Situation
Sometimes it really seems like everything is out of your control in the field of blogging, but it’s not!
If you have good content and good attitude, you’re always in control! You just need to…REFRAME the way you’re looking at the situation.

Steps to Reframe your point of view.
1: Start by looking at your analytics.
Does anything surprise you?
Perhaps a certain pin is doing better than expected. Or perhaps an old post is regaining traction again. Is there a certain subject area that is performing better than your other categories?
2: Next, find 3 things in your analytics that you can be proud of and build upon that.
Ex: Write more articles in that category. Or maybe add a printable to a popular post. Or create a new pin and repin it.
3: Give your popular posts some TLC and it will give both your blog and your mood a boost!
4: Join Facebook support groups for support (like the IBA )
5: Communicate with your followers –reach out to your list or blog’s FB group
6: Try A/B testing pins or emails to see which styles are more effective
7: Most importantly, don’t give up!
“Never give up on something that you can’t go a day without thinking about.” ―Winston Churchill
