June 2016 Wall of Fame Editor’s Choice: My Summer Staycation Bucket List
It’s SUMMER! But with money being so tight right now, I don’t foresee a trip for 5 to my local Movie Theater much less an actual vacation where we all pile into the SUV and spend endless hours trapped with bored kids and a screaming baby. What’s a brilliant and creative Diva to do? Well, getting brilliant…..and creative in a hurry was my entire master plan. I agonized over this dilemma during daily work commute and I came up with Our Summer Staycation Bucket List!
Well, getting brilliant…..and creative in a hurry was my entire master plan. I agonized over this dilemma during daily work commute and I came up with Our Summer Staycation Bucket List!
My goal was to make our summer as fun as possible within our strict budget of, “Here’s a $20, knock yourself out”. So bearing that in mind, here’s my list.
Spa Day With The Girls
Invite my friends over to bring one DIY Spa item and one finger food. We can eat and cleanse our way into total relaxation and perfect skin! This one is just for me; my husband can come up his own selfish escape plan!
Hometown Road Trips
Spend the day exploring our own Hometown. I jumped on our Hometown’s website and found out there are so many festivals, family parks and destinations that I didn’t even know about! We have a Jazz Festival and a Chocolate Festival!! We can go to movies in the park, a family fun farm, and a Mozart Festival. The have scheduled activities at our City’s Family Center and the Library has a schedule of classes and workshops to die for. There are small diners we’ve never
We can go to movies in the park, a family fun farm, and a Mozart Festival. The have scheduled activities at our City’s Family Center and the Library has a schedule of classes and workshops to die for. There are small diners we’ve never tried and an unexplored mini art district. We could spend all summer in this category alone!
Have an Outdoor Movie Night
While checking out my local library’s website, I found out that you can rent one of several projectors. COOL! All I need to have our own Backyard Movie Marathon is some PVC pipe for a movie screen frame and a sheet. I can also order and check out movie DVD’s at the Library for free! Add some homemade popcorn, blankets, pillows, and lemonade and we’re golden! And once the girls go to sleep we can really freak out the neighbors by watching on of my husband’s, “something must blow up every 5 minutes” movies.
Make Every Flavor Ice Cream On My Pinterest Secret Board
Yes, I just outed myself. I have an Ice Cream Secret Board on Pinterest with 13 delicious pins. These pins were chosen not just because the flavor combination appealed to me but for the easiness of the recipes. I mean, I don’t want to spend all day intentionally scorching milk. Let this be known as The Summer of the Ice Cream Coma!
Have a Farmers Market Picnic
We love our local Farmers Market and go quite often. So why not go early, pick up everything we need to have a picnic at the lake! We’ll have fun deciding what to buy and take with us. We can plan games like a Scavenger Hunt for the girls, swim and just hang out for the day.
Junk Swap Brunch
So okay, I planned two just for me….I’m allowed! I’m going to hold a Junk Swap in my backyard. Each person will bring 5 items that they want to swap and a Breakfast dish. I will provide Mimosa’s and the
I’m going to hold a Junk Swap in my backyard. Each person will bring 5 items that they want to swap and a Breakfast dish. I will provide Mimosa’s and the setup and spend the morning having fun — food, friends, and fabulous junk….need I say more?

I came up with so many other ideas, I’m beginning to wonder why we didn’t do this before. Things like;
- Tie Dying T-shirts
- Getting Lost in a Used Book Store
- First Free Monday at a Museum
- Squirt Gun Art
- Backyard Campout with a game of Glow Stick Ring Toss
- Glow Stick Tag
- A Tennis Shoe and Ball Gown BBQ
- An Ice Cream Social Swap
I think this year is going to have some of my favorite vacation memories ever! And while I don’t regret the loss of our annual family vacation, I’m still going to have to have a sit down with my husband. He needs to fully understand that at some point I still expect to get my London dream vacation, creating family vacation photos with photoshop just isn’t the same as being there.
Do you have your own Summer Staycation Bucket List ready?
Happy Summer!
