Using Evernote to be an organized blogger
I’m still new to this blogging adventure, but I’ve already realized how important it is to be organized. Post ideas are always popping in my head and one idea leads to three more. It always seems to happen when I’m in the shower, driving, or even walking around the grocery store. I want to write down my ideas as soon as possible so they aren’t forgotten forever.
I have been trying to go digital in my life whenever I can. I’ve been a casual user of Evernote – a note taking app – for about a year. When I began blogging, Evernote seemed to be a great way to keep everything related to my blog organized.
To keep my ideas organized, I have a notebook stack titled Blog which includes several notebooks. In the stack I keep a notebook for blog ideas and a notebook for published blog posts. The blog ideas notebook holds all my rough drafts of my posts. Whenever an idea pops up, I make a new note in Evernote and title it with the general idea of what I want my post to be about. If I have any other thoughts on items I want to include in the post, I will add those to the note as they come to me. The best part is I have it installed on my computer, my phone, and my tablet and it syncs across all my devices. I can work on my drafts whenever a thought comes to me without worrying if I have a physical notebook with me. When I am working on a post and get writer’s block, I can quickly toggle to another post in progress and work on it. Once I’ve completed writing a post and published it, I move it from the blog ideas notebook to this published blog posts notebook. I also make sure to include the date I published it.
Other ways to use Evernote for blogging:
-Reference: There is tons of information on blogging to be found through Pinterest. Although I love Pinterest, it can be hard to relocate a specific article when you need to refer back to it. You may click through several pins before you find the right one. Other times, you get frustrated because none of them are the Twitter tips you remembered seeing last week. With Evernote, you can clip articles from the web and save them in a notebook. Then if you want to find information you have saved relating to Twitter, you can just search and all your Twitter notes will pop right up. I also like to keep infographics related to blogging in my Reference notebook.
-Link Parties: Keep track of what link parties are on each day and save links to the blog that hosts the party.
-Daily Checklist: Create lists of what you want to accomplish related to blogging each day. How many tweets do you want to send? How many posts by others do you want to promote?
The more you use Evernote, you will think of more ways you can use it to keep your information organized and all in one place.
