Today we have another fun member interview. Let’s meet Brittany Burbank from You’re Somebody’s Mother. If you’re a parent, we know you’ll be able to relate to her blog. Life as we know it is gone once the kids come along! It’s like waking up one day and suddenly you’re somebody’s mother. Crazy, right? Well, Britt gets through this transition into motherhood with her good humor and positive outlook. She believes that Motherhood is better (and less lonely) when we can laugh about it together.
Wouldn’t you agree? Motherhood can get crazy, but it’s also AMAZING… and really, really, funny!

What do you blog about on You’re Somebody’s Mother?
I blog about my journey of transitioning into Motherhood. All topics that are about parenting, humor, self-love/awareness, travel, books, and learning disabilities.
How long have you been blogging? What motivated you to start?
I started my blog is March 2015 as a way to deal with Postpartum depression. At that time, I had two children under two years old and had just come off the emotional rollercoaster of being pregnant for two years straight. I needed an outlet and I wanted to make Mom’s feel less alone. Or at least laugh and smile.
While I was very pregnant, I discovered the Mom blogging world while preparing for my new life chapter. I read books like Mom’s Who Drink and Swear and Scary Mommy. These women made me laugh so hard and comforted me at the same time.
I always wanted to write. Something about having my kids finally made me find my voice.
What is your favorite part of blogging?
My favorite part of blogging is getting messages from strangers about something I have written. Hearing that my words could inspire someone is so powerful. People have reached out and told me their stories. Shared parts of their lives with me. It’s very humbling.

Meet Brittany and Family
What is the hardest part about blogging for you?
TIME! I could write forever, but juggling all the aspects of my life is always challenging. I love sitting up at night when my house is quiet and letting my brain be creative. Piecing together people, stories, and memories. Yet, I have to be careful not to stay up too late! Having two toddlers at home can sometimes make for a very early morning!
Who is your favorite blogger and why?
Jill Smokler of Scary Mommy is my favorite blogger. I like that when she writes, she feels so real. She can put humor into her family stories, yet you always can tell how much she loves them.
When her website starting accepting my articles, it was so special for me because she was one of the voices who inspired me to start my blog. It was like everything started to come full circle.
What do you do for fun when you aren’t blogging?
I am fortunate to live 1 mile from the beach. Therefore, my family spends most of our time outdoors. We have a camper we bring out on the beach. I love sports, running, and yoga. I enjoy reading in the sunshine. My husband, kids, and dog are my partners in crime. We like to travel and hike.
I love meeting new people and see new places. Taking pictures and singing loudly. I like to absorb the world in any way I can.

Tell us one fun fact about yourself.
I am determined to make You’re Somebody’s Mother my full-time job. It’s the first time I’ve had a dream in a very long time.
What did you do before you began blogging? What skills do you have?
I’m a life skills teacher at a boarding school for teenagers with complex cognitive disabilities. I coach special Olympics basketball and swimming.
Have you been published anywhere else either online or in print?
I have recently written articles for Scary Mommy! IBA also published Letters to My Sons back in June.
What do you hope to achieve with your blog and online presence?
If I can make any parent feel less alone then I have succeeded. If I can make any Mom laugh and not take herself so seriously, then I will have succeeded.
I want to make good solid parenting information and encouragement available to anyone who needs it.
Big thanks to Britt from You’re Somebody’s Mother for being part of the IBA, and for making us laugh through motherhood. As Britt would say, “Motherhood is much better when you have people to laugh at the chaos with you!” Make sure to head on over to her blog and follow along. Britt keeps it real — Motherhood is crazy, yet AMAZING! And many times, just plain out hilarious too! Mamas, we know you can relate. 😉
Till next time, Monica 🙂
