5 Tips To Successful Blogging

July 16, 2014 by Brittany 1 Comment

We make a concerted effort to use our time wisely in our house. While we try to update our blog at least 4 times a week, we often find ourselves coming in right under the wire. We want to keep you, our readers, happy with the content  and also keep us , and our respective families, on sane.  In order to keep the life balance that we talked about  during our first meeting I have set a few rules in place for blogging

1. Write when I want to write.  If I write something because I feel like I need to just have a post done then my reader is probably going to feel that, and not want to read it anyway. If it is not worth my time writing it, it is not worth your time reading it. In order to make it possible to write when the mood hits me I  set up an activity box for your kids  ahead of time. This gives them something to do so that when the mood strikes you to blog , and they can have an engaging and fun activity as well. Keeps them happy, learning, and you have the time you need to get your work done.2. Pick topics you enjoy, or get you fired up. We at Kinder Keepsakes have hearts for kids. That is why we blog about kid friendly activities, crafts and foods.  It is like being a preschool teacher…. do you want a person who hates kids to teach your children? Um No!  Why do I want to read something that you don’t truly enjoy writing?  Answer is… I don’t !  This is the same for bloggers… use what the world gives you. My kids are a treasure trove of ideas and suggestions for content. Whether it be a product I have used, or a funny saying that was mentioned during the day … this is all blog worthy!
May you always be able to do what you love and bless yourself and family with your talent!3. Give yourself a break. Make sure you have your priorities. I need to keep my God first, Family second, and then work third.  With that I also need to get some ‘me’ time as well.  I need to take time, refresh and then return with a clear head to the blog. It allows me to continue to love the writing process, and be a normal functioning human for my family as well.

4. Use the Monkey or one of his friends!  I use Picmonkey for my photos and it is super simple to use. The title photo is typically an attention grabber so try and make it as enticing as possible!  While Picmonkey is a great site, there are so many wonderfully free programs out there. Use what works for you!

5. Proofread.   I like to give myself a second to let the blog simmer before I proofread for the last time. If  I step away from it I am more likely to catch my errors. If I just proofread and publish my brain just inserts the words I think I should have written!  If you don’t have time, and have another reader in the house, just have them check for errors for you. A fresh set of eyes can be great for you. P.s  we all make mistakes so if you catch one later on… just go back with your humbled self and fix it!

Look forward to reading your words,
