A Few of My Stressors
Recently, someone requested I write a last-minute article. Wanting to return a favor they’d done for me, I agreed and immediately began thinking, “How am I possibly going to fit this in?”
When the article was complete, I began thinking about all the things that stressed me during the week…
Spouse. Kids. Friends. Family. Cleaning. Clients. Websites. Writing. The raising of a little human. Laundry. Lunches. Friends. Playdates. Tech Problems. Invoicing. Taxes. Self-care. The wiping of little bottoms. Extended family. Coffee meetings. Research. Payroll. Emails. Advertising. Social media.
And the list goes on and on. And on and on.

5-Minute Stress Relievers for Moms and Entrepreneurs
There is a lot of self-care and stress advice out there that takes TONS of time, and I just think, “When are people going to fit that in?!”
Here are a few 5-minute stress relievers for moms and entrepreneurs that are actually do-able every day. When stress creeps in, addressing it quickly is best for me.
A cup in silence.
I know it might seem silly, but a lot can happen while enjoying a cup of tea, coffee, or other beverage without being pulled in 52 directions. As far as 5-minute stress relievers go, this one is ridiculously easy and can be adapted to nearly everyone.
Enjoy the entire cup before the liquid cools, unlike your morning coffee.
A Better Morning Routine.
Pick up a copy of this book. It changed my life. Making time for this each day was an adjustment, but when I did, I reduced my stress, increased my exercise, and became happier. I have both the eReader and audiobook versions and recommend both.
I don’t want to make this article an advertisement for it, but I tell EVERYONE I know how much it changed me.
Exercise is best, but stretching helps me clear my head, and it will destroy a bad mood in just minutes. I don’t need to get into workout clothes or even put on shoes to get a good stretch. Focus on the feelings of your muscles being gently pulled and the deep breaths as you perform the stretches. You will be surprised how quickly you relieve your stress.
Take a walk.
Another one of my favorite 5-minute stress relievers can be done anywhere and with anyone (or by yourself). While working in sales, I often visited the same high-performing clients often. If there were high-stress situations, such as service performance failures, I would suggest a walking meeting to reduce the tension and increase the calm. It works to not only clear your mind and lighten your mood, but also theirs. It works with kids, too!
I tend to grab a book of quotes because I can work through a few before my ‘time is up.’ Quotes can be inspiring and be energizing for me, but you might rather read a Bible verse, affirmation, or the latest decorating magazine.
Drink a glass of water.
Cold, warm, with lemon – drink a glass of water and take a break from all of your thoughts other than consuming the entire 8 ounces in one sitting. When I’m stressed, I tend to go for the sweets. It’s a bad habit, and one I’m working on breaking. I just picked up this book to help – have you tried it?
Here’s where my Type-A comes into play, so if you’re a ‘mull it over’ kind of gal, skip this. When I have a stressor, I break it down to find out if there is something I can do to change. If it’s something within my control, for example, my restlessness from not exercising, I schedule it for later in my day. Just knowing it’s on my schedule reduces any stress.
If it’s something not entirely within my control, I map it out. For example, if my husband and I had a disagreement or a client is falling behind to their goal plan, writing down some talking points helps me to work through the anxiety.
