I’ve just written my last article in for Millers, Seeing Me Project – August the month of Midlife Matters.  Over the last five weeks, I’ve written about how to make Choices in our life, what Health Checks we need in Midlife, Exercise, and Diet.  We have taken a Self-Discovery Tour and found ways to Challenge ourselves out of our Comfort Zone.

The final area I’d like to discuss is Reinventing Yourself and also ask the question: “Do you really need to Reinvent yourself or just start living the life you want?”

Midlife Matters:  Do you really need to reinvent yourself?

There are so many articles about Reinventing ourselves, that sometimes we get caught up in the idea and perhaps forget about who we really are and what we want to ‘reinvent.’

Perhaps the real you has been pushed deep inside for so long because your relationship, family, and career have all needed your attention.  There has been little time for you to think about who you are and what your needs are that you don’t really know who you are anymore!

Now I’m all for making changes if you aren’t happy – I’ve written about it enough for you to get that idea!  Sometimes, though we lose sight of reality and what makes us the person we are.

Are you happy with your midlife? It might be time for some self-discovery and whether you need to reinvent yourself during this period of your life.

Women, in particular, those of Midlife, have difficulty actually liking themselves for who they are.  We are our own worst critic and don’t realize the beauty and potential others see in us.  We suffer an identity crisis as we become ‘empty-nesters.’  Or, we may feel lost and isolated as we try to rediscover ourselves.

Personally, I see Reinvention as a positive thing.  Something that helps us to keep growing as a person.  Reinvention is not just about You the person, but also your life in general.  You should keep challenging yourself, your boundaries and embracing new experiences in life – that is all part of a healthy lifestyle.

BUT…..

Before you go getting carried away with reinvention ask yourself these questions?

1. Who am I?
2. Do I like who I am?
3. What areas of my life would I like to change?
4. How do I see the ‘new me’?

If you DO want to reinvent yourself here are 3 quick ways to get started.

A Makeover

Well, this is the obvious one.  Changing your appearance will instantly give you a lift.  You look great and feel great, and because of this, you will be more motivated about your life in general.

A Vision

You need a vision of how you want your life to be in the future.

A Challenge

Challenge yourself!  Pull yourself out of your comfort zone and try something that will challenge you and your abilities.

Reinvention is continuous you can make changes any day or anytime.   If something isn’t working, find ways to fix it.  Enjoy your evolution!
